About the position

Anduril Industries is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its Rocket Motor Systems group, which is dedicated to designing, developing, and manufacturing next-generation solid rocket motors for defense and space applications. The Mechanical Engineer will play a crucial role in conducting mechanical design and analysis of various solid rocket motor components, including motor cases, nozzles, propellant grains, igniters, and ignition safety components. This position requires a strong understanding of the manufacturing processes for electronic devices, mechanical design principles, stress analysis, and thermal analysis. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and hardware-focused, capable of utilizing industry-standard tools effectively. In this role, the Mechanical Engineer will perform CAD design activities for mechanical components, support the manufacturing and design of electronic devices, and assist in electrical and environmental testing. Responsibilities also include generating, reviewing, and releasing product definitions such as engineering drawings, creating reports and presentations to document analyses, and presenting findings during design reviews. The engineer will support prototyping, manufacturing, and test operations both onsite at Anduril's facilities and at supplier locations, taking ownership of the development of critical subsystems from inception to completion.

Responsibilities

  • Perform CAD design activities of mechanical components.
  • Support the manufacturing and design of electronic devices.
  • Support electrical and environmental testing.
  • Generate, review, and release product definition (i.e. engineering drawings).
  • Create reports and presentations documenting analysis and other supporting work.
  • Present to peers and customers in design reviews.
  • Support prototyping, manufacturing, and test operations onsite at our manufacturing facilities and suppliers' facilities.
  • Own the development of critical subsystems from cradle to grave.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years' experience performing mechanical design and analysis.
  • A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or similar, or a comparable combination of education and applicable experience.
  • Experience with developing manufacturing processes for electronic devices.
  • Experience with environmental testing.
  • Prior experience operating CAD software.
  • A solid understanding of hardware manufacturability and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
  • Strong communication skills and high attention to detail.
  • Ability to travel to other Anduril sites, customer sites, or supplier sites as business demand dictates.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree (masters) in mechanical or aerospace engineering, or similar.
  • Experience with rigid-flex Circuit Card Assemblies (CCA).
  • Experience with Ignition Safety Devices and or fuzing.
  • Experience with manufacturing hermetic devices.
  • Experience with paperless manufacturing.
  • Experience with Solidworks CAD software.
  • Perform Finite Element Analysis of structural and thermal systems.
  • Certification in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
  • Expertise in engineering tool development in Microsoft Excel, MATLAB, and/or Python.
  • Experience with propulsion systems.
