About the position

The Senior Mechanical Engineer at Vicinity Energy plays a crucial role in providing engineering support to the company's facilities across North America, focusing on steam and chilled water distribution assets. This position is integral to the company's efforts in decarbonization and optimizing plant operations. The engineer will collaborate with various teams, including business development and operations, to ensure efficient engineering designs and compliance with safety regulations. This full-time role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership, and the ability to manage resources effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Identify thermal performance of plant equipment and synchronize real-time operations with long-term forecasting.
  • Maintain the Vicinity Efficiency Optimization System (VEOS).
  • Optimize combustion processes for efficiency and performance.
  • Conduct testing and analysis of combustion systems.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
  • Monitor and maintain existing combustion systems.
  • Direct and manage engineering resources to achieve company objectives.
  • Provide engineering support and services to operating assets, including on-site RCA investigations and technical reviews.
  • Develop monthly forecasting of engineering resources required for various projects.
  • Schedule internal and external resources as needed.
  • Ensure all engineering deliverables are identified and prioritized in a project execution plan.
  • Measure engineering's on-time delivery performance for critical deliverables.
  • Define, implement, and monitor measurements for continuous improvement of engineering performance.
  • Participate in key engineering design reviews and enforce conformance with defined requirements.
  • Support Business Development with technical strategy to maintain and capture new business accounts.
  • Define training needs and implement continuous development programs.
  • Participate in developing and preparing the annual budget for the assigned area.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in engineering concentration, MBA, or Registration as a Professional Engineer or Engineer-in-Training preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in design, project, construction, maintenance, or management of power plants.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve power plant, underground piping, and chilled water process/operations problems.
  • Combustion engineering experience is a plus.
  • 5 years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to interpret and apply a variety of policies and procedures.
  • Self-directed and confident in overcoming challenges without the need for direction.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and effective resource management skills.
