About the position

The Senior Mechanical Engineer position at Amentum involves working on large projects that require a deep understanding of various mechanical engineering principles and practices. Candidates are expected to demonstrate expertise in areas such as HVAC flow, process flow, rotating equipment, piping and instrumentation diagrams, system descriptions, mechanical equipment lists, mechanical equipment sizing, material handling design, fire protection design, sizing calculations, and vendor document reviews. This role is critical in ensuring that all mechanical systems are designed and implemented according to industry standards and project specifications. In addition to technical skills, candidates must possess knowledge of relevant codes and standards, including ASRAE, ARI, NFPA, SMACNA, and ASME National Codes. Experience with 2D MicroStation Computer-Aided Drafting and Design is preferred, particularly within the Department of Energy (DOE) complex. The role may also require performing field walk-downs to assess project requirements and ensure compliance with design specifications. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and at least 10 years of experience in the nuclear or commercial industry. It is essential for candidates to be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials and authorization, which requires U.S. citizenship due to the nature of the work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate experience in HVAC flow, process flow, and rotating equipment for large projects.
  • Develop piping and instrumentation diagrams and system descriptions.
  • Create mechanical equipment lists and perform mechanical equipment sizing.
  • Design material handling systems and fire protection systems.
  • Conduct sizing calculations and vendor document reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with ASRAE, ARI, NFPA, SMACNA, and ASME National Codes and Standards.
  • Utilize 2D MicroStation for Computer-Aided Drafting and Design.
  • Perform field walk-downs as needed to assess project requirements.

Requirements
