At UVA Facilities Management, we are a multidisciplinary team dedicated to supporting the University's diverse range of research, academic, and healthcare programs. With over 1,200 employees committed to excellence, we oversee the operation, maintenance, and enhancement of UVA's buildings and infrastructure. Our team takes pride in contributing to the University's mission by delivering high-quality design services for various renovation projects, including classrooms, labs, healthcare facilities, athletic facilities, and student housing. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in our Design Services team by leading projects, developing and managing the scope, schedule, and budget for new projects in collaboration with project managers and stakeholders. You will prepare detailed design documents for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems using Revit, assign tasks to team members, provide mentorship, and assist in resolving complex engineering challenges. Additionally, you will perform QA/QC reviews to ensure construction documents are complete, accurate, and compliant with building codes and University guidelines, oversee construction administration services, conduct feasibility studies, and participate in meetings with project managers, consulting architects, engineers, and University stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the scope, schedule, and budget for new projects in collaboration with project managers and stakeholders.
  • Prepare detailed design documents for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems using Revit.
  • Assign tasks to team members, provide mentorship, and assist in resolving complex engineering challenges.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews to ensure construction documents are complete, accurate, and compliant with building codes and University guidelines.
  • Oversee construction administration services, including submittal reviews, punch list inspections, and project closeout.
  • Conduct feasibility studies to assess project viability and make informed recommendations.
  • Adhere to and help develop departmental standards to ensure consistency and quality across all projects.
  • Participate in meetings with project managers, consulting architects, engineers, and University stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Seven years of mechanical design experience
  • Proficiency in drafting mechanical systems (Revit preferred)
  • Professional Engineer licensure required
  • Proven experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
