About the position

Nesco Resource is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Newberry, SC. This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of three years of manufacturing experience. The ideal candidate will possess a strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. The role demands excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to mentor and lead others. A passion for engineering and integrity in delivering exceptional results is essential. In this role, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for developing and implementing optimal, cost-effective designs and manufacturing processes that align with product specifications and quality standards. The engineer will recommend and implement improvements to products and production processes, focusing on project management, process improvement, problem resolution, and employee training. The position involves performing research, design, and development of new and sustaining manufacturing processes, as well as conducting process evaluations to enhance production flow and eliminate waste. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will prepare and maintain detailed layouts of buildings and equipment, coordinate the manufacturing launch of new or revised products, and design, develop, test, or source various tools and machinery. This role also includes providing creative engineering solutions to resolve field and manufacturing problems, maintaining good relationships with customers and other departments, and performing product/process analysis for cost reduction and quality improvement. The work environment is primarily office-based, but the engineer may need to visit production or shipping areas as required. The position is predominantly sedentary, with 95% of tasks performed while seated, and may involve site or customer visits. Knowledge of C programming is also beneficial for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements optimal, cost-effective designs, manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards
  • Recommends and implements improvements to product, production processes, methods and controls
  • Priorities include project management, process improvement, problem resolution, and employee training
  • Performs research, design and development of new and sustaining manufacturing processes and tool design
  • Performs process evaluations including production flow, assembly methods and waste elimination
  • Prepares and maintains detailed layouts of buildings and equipment
  • Coordinates the manufacturing launch of new/revised products, including establishing goals, training team members and evaluating results
  • Designs, develops, tests or sources and cost-justifies various tools, machinery and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods
  • Responsible for providing creative and innovative engineering solutions that aid in the resolution of field and manufacturing problems and in the maintenance and improvement of existing products
  • Responsible for implementing all phases of project plans and monitoring progress per established schedule and budget targets
  • Responsible for maintaining good relationships with customers, field personnel and other Valmont departments to ensure the most efficient working environment
  • Provide technical support to other departments as required toward meeting the needs of our customers
  • Performs product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement and efficiency improvement
  • Represents engineering on cross-functional teams
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Provide technical support to Manufacturing
  • Maintain technical specifications, process capabilities, and tooling libraries

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Three or more years of Manufacturing experience
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Excellent communication, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to mentor and lead others
  • Ability to identify, communicate and participate in process improvement opportunities (LEAN)
  • Experience with composites
  • Experience with GD&T, material specification, surface finishing requirements and manufacturing techniques (milling, turning, and welding, surface treatments)
  • Previous work experience managing projects
