About the position

The Senior Mechanical Engineer at EXP will play a crucial role in the infrastructure group, focusing on delivering innovative solutions for complex projects in the Northeast market. This position involves leading and mentoring junior engineers, ensuring high-quality design and compliance with industry standards, and managing multiple projects effectively. The engineer will be responsible for various tasks including QA/QC reviews, equipment selection, and life-cycle cost analyses, while also engaging with contractors and clients to ensure project success.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and direct less experienced mechanical staff on their responsibilities.
  • Perform QA/QC review of specifications, reports, code application, RFI and submittal review, equipment selection, deliverables, and drawings.
  • Initiate and perform QA/QC reviews of all calculations by designers and provide guidance and mentoring.
  • Determine content of drawings and specs for less experienced staff to meet the scope of work.
  • Review code-related items with Designers and ensure compliance.
  • Edit and develop basis of design narratives documenting project scope.
  • Understand psychrometrics and fire protection/fire suppression code standards and calculations.
  • Apply concepts of CHW, HW, WSHP, variable & constant flow systems.
  • Advance equipment selection and analysis for HVAC systems.
  • Write new specifications sections and develop new details as required for project needs.
  • Perform life-cycle cost analyses and energy/cost calculations for HVAC systems.
  • Modify controls diagrams and sequences of operation for air and water side equipment and systems.
  • Meet with contractors during the bid phase to review design details.
  • Critically evaluate contractor pricing and cost estimates.
  • Evaluate value engineering items with respect to EXP's level of risk and communicate design intent with contractors.
  • Apply risk management procedures to minimize exposure to problems.
  • Travel to project sites to review progress and solve problems within time and budget.
  • Develop and monitor work plans and manage deliverables on multiple projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in HVAC/Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 7-15 years of building HVAC, Fire Protection, and Plumbing design experience.
  • Experience in designing HVAC and Fire Protection systems for major NYC Agencies.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.E.).
  • Experience in commissioning and testing mechanical equipment.
  • Lead and perform extensive MEP coordination in design and construction.
  • REVIT MEP proficiency is preferred.
