About the position

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be a key member of a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to advancing product development and R&D projects, specifically in the area of next-generation metrology systems. This role involves translating innovative concepts into mechanical designs and rapidly iterating prototypes, requiring collaboration across various technical fields such as electrical, mechanical, optical, firmware, and software. The ideal candidate will thrive in a team environment, embrace new technologies, and drive concepts from prototype to high-volume consumer product solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design opto-mechanical and mechanical parts, modules, and subsystems for next-generation metrology tools.
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineering teams to create new systems, prototypes, and test fixtures.
  • Prepare test plans, build prototypes, and conduct or oversee tests to validate design concepts.
  • Manage the entire design process from initial requirements to final handoff to engineering or manufacturing.
  • Perform risk analysis and implement mitigation strategies using experiments, FEA analysis, or other relevant methods.
  • Develop supporting documentation, such as assembly and test procedures, and proactively address product issues throughout development phases.
  • Oversee the procurement and management of key suppliers.

Requirements

  • Doctorate (Academic) Degree with no experience, or Master's Level Degree with related experience of 3 years, or Bachelor's Level Degree with related experience of 5 years.
  • Understand fundamentals of mechanical engineering, including design principles, tolerance, error budget, materials, and thermal dynamics.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks.
  • Good modelling, detail drawing practices and an understanding of GD&T.
  • Experience designing systems for High Vacuum and Ultra-High Vacuum.
  • Capable of conducting FEA analysis such as stress, thermal, vibration, and flow analysis.
  • Understand how metals are machined; some machine shop experience is helpful.
  • Understand basic concepts of optics, such as reflection, refraction, focusing, polarization, and simple ray tracing.

Benefits

  • Continuous learning opportunities with in-depth knowledge of cutting-edge metrology tools.
  • Participation in industry trainings and ongoing mentorship from experienced engineers.
