About the position

The Systems Mechanical Engineer role at Black & Veatch involves designing mechanical systems for both Conventional and Renewable Power Generation. This position requires collaboration with various design engineering teams and entails performing comprehensive mechanical system design engineering and analysis. The engineer will function at a senior level, engaging with clients, coordinating tasks, and managing project budgets and schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical systems supporting Conventional and Renewable Power Generation
  • Collaborate with various design engineering execution teams across the US and abroad
  • Perform all aspects of mechanical system design engineering and analysis for assigned systems
  • Understand client interests and drivers through communication with project leadership
  • Assign tasks to and coordinate with other internal/external team members on complex projects
  • Conduct complex research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection
  • Manage and adhere to project budget, schedule, and quality requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program
  • Minimum of 8 years related work experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license

Nice-to-haves

  • Expertise in Simple and Combined Cycle plant design
  • Experience with Condensate and Feedwater systems
  • P&ID development skills
  • Knowledge of Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Natural, and/or CO2 gas supply systems
  • Experience with Cooling water systems
  • Familiarity with High Pressure / Intermediate Pressure / Low / Auxiliary Steam systems
  • Knowledge of Instrument and/or Service Air Systems
  • Experience with Demineralized (DM) water supply and make up systems
  • Familiarity with Service and Potable water supply systems
  • Ability to perform calculations such as pipe sizing, pump sizing, and heat exchanger sizing
