About the position

At Jacobs Technology, Inc., we are seeking a Senior Mechanical Process Engineer who will play a pivotal role in transforming abstract ideas into tangible solutions. This position is available in our Bingham Farms, MI or Tullahoma, TN offices and is designed for a self-motivated professional with at least 15 years of progressive design experience. The successful candidate will lead and manage projects within a multi-discipline team, ensuring client satisfaction while delivering key projects within scope, budget, and schedule. In this role, you will be responsible for leading project teams to develop innovative designs for various process systems that support automotive and aerospace research and test facilities. You will take ownership of the technical schedule and budget performance of your assigned work, independently planning, scheduling, conducting, and coordinating engineering tasks. Your analytical skills will be crucial as you review results from assigned tasks and junior engineers, ensuring completeness and accuracy in documentation. You will also be tasked with developing technical reports and presentations for project management and clients, formally checking the work of others, and mentoring junior engineers. Collaboration with structural, machine design, controls, instrumentation, and aerodynamics/fluid dynamics engineers will be essential as you size and specify piping/ducting systems and components, including compressors, pumps, fans, valves, and fluid conditioning equipment. Your designs will encompass high-pressure cryogenic and pneumatic piping systems, high-temperature systems, refrigeration, vacuum, and fuel systems, as well as specialty HVAC systems. Working in a fast-paced environment, you will support project managers in ongoing design efforts, participate in internal and external meetings, and conduct fieldwork, which may include climbing test stands and working around machinery. This position requires occasional travel to support design reviews, factory acceptance testing, construction activities, and startup/commissioning activities at job sites.
