About the position

The Senior Media Relations Specialist at TC Energy is responsible for developing and executing strategic media relations strategies to protect and enhance the company's reputation. This role requires a deep understanding of public policy, a strong network of media contacts, and the ability to manage crisis situations effectively. The specialist will collaborate across various corporate functions to implement media strategies and will serve as a spokesperson when necessary.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategic media plans and strategies that influence and contextualize issues important to TC Energy's operations and reputation.
• Support crisis and emergency response, reputation, and issues management.
• Provide strategic communication consultation to business partners, proactively offering media relations solutions.
• Develop and maintain key media relationships and perform spokesperson duties as required.
• Write media pitches, responses, executive briefings, and other communication materials for various audiences.
• Conduct media monitoring and reporting as required.
• Provide media training and coaching to subject matter experts.
• Mentor and review the work of team members.
• Support the development and use of tools and templates for media relations.
• Serve as a member of the on-call team for media emergencies.

Requirements

• Post-Secondary Education in a related field (communications, journalism, public relations, business).
• 6 years of related experience in media relationship management or demonstrated relationships with traditional media.
• Proven experience in crisis management and working with senior leaders.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information to diverse audiences.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with social media, content management systems, and news release dissemination platforms.
• Previous experience in the energy industry and understanding of the public policy landscape across North America.
• Advanced Degree in a related field.
