About the position

The Sr. Media Systems Engineer at Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology is responsible for transforming the capability and flexibility of content acquisition, production, and distribution worldwide. This role involves leading the design and implementation of both traditional broadcast production systems and cloud-based infrastructure, ensuring high levels of quality, efficiency, and resiliency. The engineer will work closely with management and executive leadership to advance Disney's technical posture and will be involved in modernizing legacy media production systems to support advanced technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical implementation of traditional broadcast production systems and cloud-based infrastructure for content acquisition, production, encoding, decoding, and distribution.
  • Coordinate the modernization of legacy media production infrastructure systems to support advancements such as SMPTE ST 2110, 4K, UHD HDR, and related technologies.
  • Oversee the construction of facilities, upgrades, and installation of equipment including core routing, intercom, playout, and distribution systems.
  • Collaborate with installation engineers, equipment manufacturers, vendors, and technical operations staff on projects.
  • Develop project plans, schedules, and capital planning, forecasting, and estimations.
  • Assess facility needs in collaboration with DE&ET and operations' management.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of broadcast engineering experience.
  • BS in Engineering or Computer Science or a minimum of 5 years' experience in broadcast facilities design and documentation.
  • Strong understanding of baseband/IP video, audio and digital compression, transport systems, and encoding/transcoding techniques.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge of DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, HTTP, UDP, SSL, and SNMP.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Perl, Python, Ruby, Shell, C, or C+.
  • Familiarity with SMPTE standards for broadcast television and video production/streaming environments.
