About the position

The Senior Medical Assistant in the Ambulatory Department is responsible for providing routine patient care under the supervision of a physician or other medical personnel. This role involves assisting with examinations, performing tests, gathering patient information, and ensuring the smooth operation of the outpatient clinic. The position requires a blend of clinical and clerical skills to support patient care and clinic operations effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Assists physician or other medical personnel in the examination process.
  • Performs order entry to electronic medical records, including prescription refills and lab tests.
  • Places patients in exam rooms and positions them for appropriate exams or procedures.
  • Performs routine tests on patients such as audiograms, vision tests, and EKGs.
  • Obtains and records vital signs and patient histories, maintaining confidentiality.
  • Performs various nursing duties including suture removal and administration of injections.
  • Chaperones examinations and assists with both surgical and non-surgical procedures.
  • Responsible for stocking exam rooms, taking inventory, and sterilizing instruments.
  • Makes scheduling arrangements with other healthcare professionals and facilities.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • 6 months experience in patient care as a Medical Assistant or performing electronic order entry preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
