About the position

The Senior Medical Assistant (Sr. MA) position at Houston Methodist is responsible for providing high-quality support in patient care and services, particularly in cardiology. This role requires advanced knowledge and skills to assist with patient examinations, procedures, and administrative duties under the supervision of a physician or registered nurse. The Sr. MA also serves as a preceptor and clinical resource for other medical assistants, ensuring compliance with healthcare standards and promoting a positive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with patient examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, and treatment under the supervision of a physician or registered nurse.
  • Perform general administrative duties in accordance with CLIA, HIPAA, NCQA, and government standards.
  • Schedule patient appointments and verify eligibility for care.
  • Act as a preceptor and clinical resource for other medical assistants, providing training and orientation as needed.
  • Document patient care and vital signs in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Communicate with patients regarding their care and follow up on recommendations and compliance.
  • Maintain exam and treatment rooms, sterilize instruments, and manage inventory of supplies.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent education.
  • Five years of medical assistant experience with complex, chronic disease management or in a specialty discipline.
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or National Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification within one year of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Nice-to-haves
