About the position

The Senior Medical Assistant (Sr. MA) at Houston Methodist is responsible for providing high-quality support in patient care and services under the supervision of a Physician or Registered Nurse. This role involves performing advanced medical assistant tasks, overseeing the scope of practice, assisting with patient examinations and procedures, and ensuring compliance with healthcare standards. The Sr. MA also serves as a preceptor and clinical resource for other Medical Assistants, contributing to a positive work environment and effective patient care coordination.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, treatment, and dressing changes.
• Perform general administrative duties in accordance with CLIA, HIPAA, NCQA, and government standards.
• Schedule patient appointments and verify eligibility for care.
• Act as a preceptor and clinical resource to Medical Assistants, training and orienting others as appropriate.
• Communicate with patients, document vital signs and medical history in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Follow up with patients to ensure compliance with recommendations and care plans.
• Coordinate care with hospital, ED, consulting physicians, and community resources.
• Report observations and conditions of patients to the physician and/or nurse.
• Perform routine tests on patients and maintain exam and treatment rooms.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent education.
• Five years of medical assistant experience with complex, chronic disease management or in a specialty discipline.
• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or equivalent certification from an approved agency.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
