About the position

The Senior Medical Technologist at Baptist Memorial Health is responsible for utilizing laboratory skills to perform and report results of clearly defined laboratory procedures, ensuring optimal patient outcomes. This role involves executing effective and efficient laboratory operations, working assigned shifts, and being subject to overtime and callback as required. The technologist will also recommend and evaluate technical methods and procedures, ensuring that all laboratory processes meet the highest standards of quality and efficiency. In addition to these core responsibilities, the Senior Medical Technologist will perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the laboratory team. Key responsibilities include receiving, identifying, organizing, and prioritizing specimens to ensure accurate and timely test processing. The technologist will perform and report requested laboratory procedures, conduct quality control, proficiency testing, routine instrument maintenance, and inventory control. Evaluating positive patient identification is crucial to reduce analytical and post-analytical errors and adverse patient outcomes. The role also requires assessing, evaluating, and drawing appropriate conclusions based on laboratory results, as well as evaluating technical methods and procedures to enhance laboratory operations. Supporting lifelong learning and completing assigned goals are also essential aspects of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, identifies, organizes and prioritizes specimens to ensure accurate and timely test processing.
  • Performs and reports requested laboratory procedures.
  • Performs quality control, proficiency testing, routine instrument maintenance and inventory control.
  • Evaluates positive patient identification to reduce analytical and post-analytical error and/or adverse patient outcomes.
  • Assesses, evaluates and draws appropriate conclusions.
  • Evaluates technical methods and procedures.
  • Executes effective and efficient Laboratory operations.
  • Supports lifelong learning.

Requirements

  • Minimum: State Licensures and/or National registration or certification in concordance with current Federal and/or State Regulations.
  • Preferred: Hospital experience preferred.
  • Minimum: 3 years experience as Medical Technologist.
  • Preferred: ASCP certification.
  • Minimum: AMT; NCA; ASCP certification.
  • Minimum: Basic computer literacy skills.
