About the position

The Senior Metallurgist at Freeport-McMoRan is responsible for providing technical expertise and leadership in metallurgical testing and analysis at the Bagdad site. This role involves conducting and assisting with metallurgical studies, evaluating processes, and making recommendations to improve metallurgical operations. The position requires collaboration with site management and adherence to safety regulations while contributing to strategic planning and budgeting efforts.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise and guidance in metallurgical testing and analysis.
• Conduct, plan, and assist with metallurgical studies and testing.
• Serve as a technical expert on complex metallurgical testing and process issues.
• Review and recommend new or enhanced metallurgical testing equipment or protocols.
• Contribute to the improvement of metallurgical processes.
• Evaluate and administer contracts with vendors for services and equipment.
• Provide guidance to site management on applicable regulations and practices.
• Maintain knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
• Contribute to site strategic planning and budgeting for metallurgical testing.
• Represent the site on company-sponsored steering teams.
• Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Chemistry, or related Engineering discipline and five years of experience in Metallurgy or related Scientific field, OR a Master's degree in the same fields with three years of experience.
• Knowledge of principles and methods used in complex metallurgical and processing analyses.
• Ability to research and analyze complex information and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to develop awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
• Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.
