About The Position
Westat is seeking a Senior Network Analyst-Firewall Engineer to lead the implementation, management, and monitoring of firewalls and network security appliances on our critical networks. In this role, you will be responsible for building highly available solutions and providing preemptive support through an improved focus on monitoring. You will also scale the business with flawless connectivity to cloud resources and remote offices, troubleshoot issues, and provide problem resolutions. The position allows users the freedom to connect from anywhere while maintaining security best practices. This is a full-time hybrid position requiring 1-2 days in our corporate office located in Rockville, Maryland, near Washington, DC. As a Senior Network Analyst-Firewall Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and monitoring network security capabilities, including but not limited to Web Application Firewalls, Intrusion Detection Systems, Intrusion Prevention Systems, advanced log analysis, network monitoring, network flow analysis, packet capture analysis, and access control lists. You will provide technical leadership on firewall design, implementation, management, and monitoring, and will monitor, investigate, and respond to security incidents. Additionally, you will provide Tier III support to technical teams and mentor network engineers to expand their skillsets and career growth. You will find opportunities to optimize the functionality, performance, stability, and security of existing networks, continuously assessing systems, processes, and procedures for possible improvements. Monitoring and diagnosing performance issues using on-prem or cloud systems and tools will also be part of your responsibilities. You will work alongside your colleagues in the Information Security team to ensure the appropriate level of security to safeguard company intellectual property and to meet audit requirements.
