About the position

The Senior Network Development Engineer for Project Kuiper is responsible for architecting, deploying, and maintaining wireless networks to support the initiative's mission of increasing global broadband access through a satellite constellation. This role requires a strong technical background in wireless technologies, networking, and cloud management, with a focus on automation to enhance network performance and reliability. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide operational support for wireless networks, ensuring high availability and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Design robust, high-performance wireless networks utilizing industry best practices.
  • Optimize Access Point (AP) placement and configuration to maximize coverage and capacity.
  • Lead the implementation of wireless network migrations between different vendors.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate wireless solutions into existing infrastructure.
  • Provide operational support for wireless networks, including monitoring performance and analyzing traffic.
  • Identify and resolve issues related to network performance and congestion.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of network designs and configurations.
  • Generate regular reports on project status and performance trends.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices in wireless networking.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of automation scripting using Python and Ansible.
  • 8+ years of experience with major internet routing protocols.
  • 5+ years of experience in a Linux/Unix environment.
  • 5+ years of experience with Cisco and/or Juniper network gear.
  • 5+ years of experience with Cisco wireless technologies including Wireless LAN Controllers and Access Points.

Nice-to-haves

  • Expert knowledge of all 802.11 standards and radio frequency communication principles.
  • Hands-on experience with Site Survey tools like Ekahau.
  • Field experience with Cisco wireless solutions such as Catalyst 9800 IOS-XE and AIR-OS Controllers.
  • Strong leadership and project management abilities.
  • License/Certification: CWNA/CCNP Wireless/CCIE Wireless.
