About the position

The Senior Network Engineer will serve as a Router Team Operator for the 26th NOS, focusing on overseeing network security operations, troubleshooting network issues, and ensuring optimal performance of WAN circuits. This role requires a strong technical background in network engineering, particularly with Cisco routers and various protocols, as well as the ability to manage tasks independently and collaborate with team members.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Router Team Operator for the 26th NOS.
  • Oversee intrusion detection, intrusion prevention, boundary protection, and vulnerability assessment operations to defend the Air Force Network (AFNet).
  • Investigate and rectify malfunctions in network hardware and other systems to ensure service continuity.
  • Meticulously monitor and manage all WAN circuits, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Respond promptly to remote assistance requests from colleagues and service partners, providing expert technical support.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive network support and implementation handover documentation for the Helpdesk.
  • Manage assigned tasks and projects independently, ensuring timely completion and adherence to deadlines.
  • Provide backup support to other team members as needed, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • Undertake any other assignments or duties as directed by management, demonstrating adaptability and versatility.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network issues across multiple devices to include routers, switches, firewalls, and management systems.
  • Understand and implement disaster recovery procedures.
  • Experience interpreting, implementing, and assessing DISA STIGs.
  • Participate in the implementation of agreed upon solutions and strategies.
  • Troubleshoot technology issues, using various internal and external resources.
  • Generate innovative approaches and solutions to recurring tasks or problems.
  • Document technical problems, resolutions, and processes for assigned tasks and projects.
  • Participate in testing and evaluation of new technologies to ensure compatibility and functionality.

Requirements

  • Expert level experience in network engineering.
  • Proficiency with Cisco routers and protocols such as BGP and OSPF.
  • CCNP certification required (Routing and Switching, ENARSI, ENSDWI, or ENSLD).
  • IAT II certification (Security +) required.
