About the position

The Network Engineer will play a crucial role in the operations of the network, ensuring that all company connections are implemented and maintained at a highly available, enterprise level. This position involves a blend of project work and system support, as the Network Engineer will be part of a team responsible for managing the network infrastructure environment. This includes ensuring the appropriate configuration, maintenance, and installation of routers, switches, appliances, hardware, software, and tools. The Network Engineer will be tasked with maintaining the health and security of the route switch environment by keeping the latest patches and updates, configuring systems, and utilizing monitoring systems to identify and resolve issues. The role will primarily focus on project work, with additional day-to-day responsibilities related to cleanup and optimization of the network. Projects that the Network Engineer will be involved in include a data center build, leveraging new technology with megaports, managing 3rd party provider links, SaaS implementations, and an Azure redesign. Collaboration with the department leader is essential to identify, design, and develop strategic network solutions that comply with technical and security policies. The Network Engineer will also work closely with other networking and technical teams, as well as the Information Security team, on new initiatives. As a subject matter expert in several network technologies, the Network Engineer will assist in maintaining the network environment, including configuration, IOS updates, and patches. Troubleshooting network issues will be a key responsibility, utilizing industry-standard network tools and monitoring systems. The role requires strong knowledge of Internet services, encryption, and network-based protocols, including Routing Protocols (EIGRP, BGP, OSPF), Policy Based Routing, OTV, and VXLAN. Additionally, the Network Engineer will be responsible for VPN configuration and setup, familiarity with storage and server virtualization technologies, and coding in languages such as Terraform, Python, PowerShell, and Yang.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain all company connections at an enterprise level.
  • Manage the network infrastructure environment, ensuring appropriate configuration, maintenance, and installation of routers, switches, and appliances.
  • Maintain the health and security of the route switch environment by applying the latest patches and updates.
  • Utilize monitoring systems to identify and resolve network issues.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to design and develop strategic network solutions compliant with technical and security policies.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in various network technologies, including analysis and QA.
  • Assist in maintaining the network environment, including configuration and IOS updates.
  • Troubleshoot network issues using industry-standard tools and monitoring systems.
  • Support Fiber Channel Infrastructure and various network appliances.
  • Assist in Business Continuity testing and provide after-hours on-call assistance on a rotation basis.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of Internet services, encryption, and network-based protocols.
  • Experience with Routing Protocols (EIGRP, BGP, OSPF), Policy Based Routing, OTV, and VXLAN.
  • Proficiency in VPN configuration and setup (Any Connect and Easy VPN).
  • Familiarity with Cisco IOS and Cisco NXOS.
  • Experience with firewall configuration and implementation (preferably Firepower or Checkpoint).
  • Knowledge of Fiber Channel Infrastructure (Nexus 5000, 7000, 8000, 9000 series switches).
  • Experience with network appliances such as Citrix NetScaler, F5 BIG-IP, and Cisco ESA.
  • Familiarity with storage and server virtualization technologies and their dependencies on network infrastructure.
  • Coding skills in Terraform, Python, PowerShell, Yang, or similar languages.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of emerging technologies that could solve technical problems or enhance user experience.
  • Experience with SaaS and Azure redesign projects.
