About the position

The Senior Network Engineer for the Global Wide Area Network (GWAN) Team at Marriott is tasked with creating and enhancing secure network services and solutions that provide the best possible experience for Marriott Associates, contractors, and customers. This role involves working with cutting-edge technologies such as SDWAN, Cloud Networking, and AI/ML enablement, all while adhering to a SASE-based framework. The Senior Engineer will play a crucial role in the transformation of Marriott's global wide area network, which is a foundational effort supporting the company's cloud-first strategy. The ideal candidate is a critical thinker who is committed to achieving a fully automated network, contributing to major initiatives that enhance network performance and reliability. In this position, the Senior Network Engineer will be responsible for network design, engineering, implementation, and operational optimization for the Corporate Network GWAN product. This includes ensuring compliance with applicable standards related to architecture, security, privacy, and governance. The role also encompasses network service and circuit capacity management, project planning and delivery, and collaboration with various teams including Network Architects, Test and Certification, Information Security, and Finance. The engineer will also be involved in developing and executing new initiatives aimed at simplifying, standardizing, optimizing, and automating network designs and operations, ultimately reducing implementation cycle times and minimizing service downtime. The Senior Network Engineer will need to be available to work non-standard hours during change implementations and service restoration efforts, ensuring that the network remains operational and efficient. This position is integral to Marriott's commitment to providing a seamless and secure network experience for all users, and it offers the opportunity to work with a diverse range of technologies and teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design, engineer, implement, and optimize the Corporate Network GWAN product.
  • Manage network service and circuit capacity.
  • Plan and deliver projects including hardware and software specifications and vendor coordination.
  • Review change planning and run books.
  • Govern third-party service providers.
  • Provide L3 escalation support for operational issues and outages.
  • Collaborate with Network Architects, Test and Certification, Information Security, Finance, and Procurement teams.
  • Participate in product strategy and planning.
  • Develop and execute initiatives to simplify, standardize, optimize, and automate network designs and operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 7+ years of experience as a Network Engineer, with hands-on experience in implementing engineering standards and documenting designs.
  • Experience in implementing WAN, LAN, and datacenter networks focusing on mission-critical applications.
  • Technical knowledge in networking (Cisco and non-Cisco), SDN, firewalls, DNS, NTP, and common routing protocols (OSPF, BGP).
  • Experience designing and delivering networking services in public clouds (AWS, Azure, etc.).
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code for Cloud network components and Firewalls as a Service.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours during change implementations.
