About the position

The Senior Network Engineer for the Global Wide Area Network (GWAN) Team at Marriott International is tasked with the critical responsibility of creating and enhancing secure network services and solutions. This role is pivotal in ensuring an optimal experience for Marriott Associates, contractors, and customers alike. The Senior Engineer will engage with cutting-edge technologies, including Software-Defined Wide Area Networking (SDWAN), Cloud Networking, and AI/ML enablement, all while adhering to a Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) framework. The position is integral to the transformation of Marriott's global wide area network, which is a foundational initiative supporting the company's cloud-first strategy. In this role, the Senior Network Engineer will be expected to leverage their extensive experience in network engineering to implement engineering standards, document designs, and participate in project cutovers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in implementing WAN, LAN, and datacenter networks, particularly for mission-critical, customer-facing applications and services. The position requires a deep technical knowledge of networking, including both Cisco and non-Cisco technologies, with a focus on software-defined networking, firewalls, DNS, NTP, and common routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP, deployed across large global networks. Additionally, the Senior Engineer will design and deliver networking services in public clouds like AWS, Azure, and GCP, and will be responsible for creating WAN connectivity to these clouds using native connect solutions. The role also involves writing Infrastructure as Code for cloud network components and managing virtualized network services. The candidate must be prepared to work non-standard hours during change implementations and service restoration efforts, showcasing flexibility and commitment to operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Design, engineer, implement, and optimize the Corporate Network GWAN product while adhering to applicable standards.
  • Manage network service and circuit capacity effectively.
  • Plan and deliver projects, including hardware and software specifications and vendor coordination.
  • Conduct change planning and run book reviews to ensure smooth transitions.
  • Govern third-party service providers to maintain service quality and compliance.
  • Provide L3 escalation support for operational issues and outages.
  • Collaborate with Network Architects, Test and Certification, Information Security, and Finance teams to ensure cohesive operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 7+ years of experience as a Network Engineer, with hands-on experience in implementing engineering standards and documenting designs.
  • Proven experience in implementing WAN, LAN, and datacenter networks focused on mission-critical applications.
  • Technical knowledge in networking, particularly with Cisco and non-Cisco technologies, and software-defined networking (SDN).
  • Experience with firewalls, DNS, NTP, and common routing protocols (OSPF, BGP) in large global networks.
  • Experience designing and delivering networking services in public clouds such as AWS, Azure, and GCP.
  • Ability to write Infrastructure as Code for cloud network components and manage virtualized network services.
