About the position

The Senior Network Engineer, Global Wide Area Network (GWAN) Team at Marriott International is tasked with the critical responsibility of creating and enhancing secure network services and solutions. This role is pivotal in ensuring an optimal experience for Marriott Associates, contractors, and customers alike. The Senior Engineer will engage with cutting-edge technologies, including SDWAN, Cloud Networking, and AI/ML enablement, while adhering to a SASE-based framework. In this role, the Senior Network Engineer will be responsible for the design, engineering, implementation, and operational optimization of the Corporate Network GWAN product. This includes ensuring compliance with all applicable standards, such as architecture, security, privacy, and compliance. The position also involves managing network service and circuit capacity, project planning and delivery, and coordinating with vendors for hardware and software specifications. The Senior Engineer will play a crucial role in change planning and run book reviews, as well as providing L3 escalation support for operational issues and outages. Collaboration with other key teams, including Network Architects, Test and Certification, Information Security, Finance, and Procurement, is essential to the success of this role. The Senior Network Engineer will also participate in product strategy and planning, developing and executing new initiatives aimed at simplifying, standardizing, optimizing, and automating network designs, tooling, and operations. This will help reduce implementation cycle times, minimize service downtime, and enhance overall network performance. Responsibilities

  • Design, engineer, implement, and optimize the Corporate Network GWAN product.
  • Manage network service and circuit capacity.
  • Plan and deliver projects including hardware and software specifications and vendor coordination.
  • Conduct change planning and run book reviews.
  • Provide L3 escalation support for operational issues and outages.
  • Collaborate with Network Architects, Test and Certification, Information Security, Finance, and Procurement teams.
  • Participate in product strategy and planning.
  • Develop and execute initiatives to simplify, standardize, optimize, and automate network designs and operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 7 years of experience as a Network Engineer, with hands-on experience in implementing engineering standards and documenting designs.
  • Experience in implementing WAN, LAN, and datacenter networks, focusing on mission-critical applications.
  • Technical knowledge in networking, particularly with Cisco and non-Cisco technologies, SDN, firewalls, DNS, NTP, and common routing protocols (OSPF, BGP).
  • Experience designing and delivering networking services in public clouds (AWS, Azure, AliCloud, GCP, OCI).
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code for Cloud network components and Firewalls as a Service.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours during change implementations and service restoration efforts.

  • Experience leveraging automation, AI, and machine learning for network management.
  • Development and deployment of virtualized network services.
  • Vendor experience with Cisco, Juniper/Mist, Palo Alto Networks, ServiceNow, Netskope, and Equinix Fabric.
