About the position

As a Network Engineer at Claire's, you will play a pivotal role in the design, implementation, and support of enterprise solutions that focus on network technologies including LAN, WAN, WiFi, and Firewall systems, as well as datacenter technologies. This hybrid position is based on-site in Hoffman Estates, IL, and requires you to act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in leading end-to-end network solutions. Your responsibilities will encompass planning, designing, deploying, testing, documenting, troubleshooting, and auditing network systems. You will be expected to deliver presentations on emerging technologies to senior leadership and manage network-related budgets effectively. In this role, you will participate in engineering discussions and collaborate with both internal and external teams. You will serve as an escalation point for Tier 1 support and will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and maintenance of various communications platforms and technologies. Close collaboration with other engineers and architects will be essential as you develop technical documents and implement new technologies as part of large-scale lifecycle programs and key enterprise initiatives. You will also be responsible for creating and delivering best practices across the network domain, adhering to ITSM/ITIL procedures regarding changes and incidents. Your role will involve ownership, coordination, and collaboration for any issues that arise, as well as managing vendor relationships, including reviewing and negotiating contracts and ensuring that deliverables are met. You will need to be familiar with Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs), runbooks, project plans, High-Level Designs (HLD), Low-Level Designs (LLD), configuration templates, and operational handoff documents. Additionally, you will develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations while staying engaged with the latest infrastructure technologies and methodologies. Lifecycle management, maintenance contracts, licensing, total cost of ownership, and inventory control of all network assets globally will also fall under your purview.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and support enterprise network solutions focused on LAN, WAN, WiFi, and Firewall technologies.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for end-to-end network solutions.

  • Manage network-related budgets and participate in engineering discussions.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience working with network services, including routing, switching, VPN/tunneling, wireless, load balancers, out-of-band management, datacenter, and firewalls.
  • Knowledge of various types of network connectivity technologies such as MPLS, VPN, Internet, SDWAN, and point-to-point connections.
  • Understanding of the OSI model and how systems and services operate within it.
  • Familiarity with enterprise-class network management and analysis systems, such as ManageEngine, Ekahau, and Wireshark.
  • Experience in implementing network systems, including creating configuration cutsheets/runbooks, change requests, and handoff documents for operations.
  • Proven troubleshooting skills for networked systems and experience working with operations teams for problem isolation and resolution.
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities and perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
