About the position

As a Senior Network Engineer at Builders FirstSource, you will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and troubleshooting networking solutions that align with our business requirements. This position is under general supervision and involves configuring a variety of networking components including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and wireless access points/controllers. You will also be responsible for SD-WAN appliances in both break/fix and new deployment scenarios. Your expertise will guide the BFS network team in researching and providing a comprehensive roadmap for our networking technologies, ensuring that all team members are well-trained and informed about new implementations. In addition to your technical responsibilities, you will support all BFS remote locations and data centers, including public cloud environments such as AWS and Azure. Your role will require you to install complex hardware and software systems for network and security components, develop scripts to automate network administrative tasks, and evaluate new technologies to enhance our network performance and user satisfaction. You will lead technical analyses of current networks, write requirements documents for new hardware/software, and implement data/system security processes, including access controls and monitoring software. Your ability to identify trends in network issues and determine root causes will be essential in reducing future problems. You will also provide training and documentation to the Network Operations Center (NOC) and Administrator teams for newly deployed technologies, ensuring that our staff is equipped to handle the evolving landscape of network management.

Responsibilities

  • Installs complex hardware, systems and software for network and/or security components
  • Develops and maintain scripts to facilitate network administrative tasks and automate repetitive processes
  • Evaluates and recommends new and emerging technologies and works with engineers to design/implement solutions based on business initiatives
  • Recommends solutions that address network performance, user satisfaction and business needs of the organization
  • Leads others to conduct the technical analysis of current networks
  • Writes requirements documents for evaluation of new hardware/software
  • Leads the implementation of data/system security processes including access controls, monitoring software, and generation of security reports
  • Provides training and documentation to the NOC and Administrator teams for newly deployed technologies
  • Assists troubleshooting for data centers and remote locations
  • Implements performance tuning
  • Identifies trends in issues and determines the root cause to reduce future issues

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • 4+ years relevant work experience
  • Advanced knowledge of routing and switching
  • Advanced knowledge of data center technologies both private and public cloud
  • CCNP - Or equivalent knowledge/experience

  • Experience with cloud networking solutions
