About the position

The Senior Cisco Network Engineer at Cedars-Sinai is responsible for providing technical engineering support, design, and architecture for the Health Systems data infrastructure. This role involves developing and implementing standards, policies, and procedures while ensuring the integrity and security of the network. The engineer will mentor junior network engineers, manage day-to-day network issues, and participate in the evaluation of new applications affecting the existing network infrastructure. The position requires collaboration with various IT groups and contractors to implement projects successfully.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical engineering support, design, and architecture for the Health Systems data infrastructure.
  • Develop and implement standards, policies, and procedures for network management.
  • Act as a liaison with contractors and vendors to ensure network integrity and security.
  • Mentor Network Engineers and guide implementation teams in network designs.
  • Perform maintenance and upgrades of networks, including servers, routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Monitor network connectivity and ensure high-quality data transmission.
  • Provide technical support for LAN/MAN/WAN/Security/Wireless and cloud-based networks.
  • Manage day-to-day network issues and maintain enterprise Service Level Agreements (SLA).
  • Evaluate new applications for the Health System and recommend necessary operational or security enhancements.
  • Coordinate contracted network penetrations to validate security infrastructure and implement remediation recommendations.
  • Collaborate with user project managers and IT groups to implement projects successfully.
  • Participate in policy creation and perform periodic security reviews of existing information systems.
  • Design, implement, maintain, and modify perimeter and network security devices and systems.
  • Identify and resolve hardware and software technical problems related to networks.
  • Promote governance and compliance with security standards, policies, and procedures.

Requirements

  • Five plus years of experience as a Network Engineer in a complex multi-platform, multi-protocol environment, preferably in a Healthcare environment.
  • Experience in planning, designing, and documenting Cisco equipped networks with 15,000 plus nodes.
  • Expertise in network monitoring, analysis, management, and configuration tools.
  • Strong project management and interpersonal skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of LAN and WAN operation, routing, topology, QoS, Multicast, and network protocols.
  • Expertise in MPLS, NAC, VPN, remote access servers, security devices, firewalls, and security protocols.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering or IT discipline preferred.
  • CCNP or CCIE certification preferred.
