About the position

As a Senior Network Engineer at GDIT, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Department of Defense's mission to ensure national security. This position is part of the US Battlefield Information Collection and Exploitation System eXtended (US BICES-X), a program dedicated to enhancing intelligence information sharing among mission partners and addressing emerging global threats. You will be joining a dynamic and internationally dispersed team that directly supports combatant commands and their operations. Your work will involve collaborating with network staff to ensure the reliable operation of software and systems, defining business requirements, and resolving any issues that arise in the business systems. In the acquisition and deployment phase, you will design and define network architecture for both new and existing systems, perform complex network development tasks, and participate in system upgrades. You will also be responsible for developing tests to ensure that networks meet user requirements and for providing documentation on network configurations. Your operational management duties will include identifying and resolving network problems, providing training and technical guidance, and maintaining knowledge of relevant technologies. You will also have the opportunity to mentor less-experienced systems engineers, contributing to their professional growth. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of network engineering principles, methods, and techniques, as well as familiarity with associated hardware and software. You will be expected to stay current with technological advancements and participate in special projects as assigned. Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with network staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems.
  • Work with executive team members and stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals.
  • Design and define network architecture for new or existing computer systems.
  • Perform complex network development and design work.
  • Participate in the upgrading of operating systems and design of network enhancements.
  • Provide input for documentation on new or existing networks.
  • Develop and conduct tests to ensure networks meet documented user requirements.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve network problems.
  • Provide network/equipment/specialized training and technical guidance.
  • Determine network specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to less-experienced systems engineers.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of related Network Engineering experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance.
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent experience.
  • Must possess a completed CCNA certification.
  • Must meet DOD 8750 requirements and be eligible for IAT level II access upon hire.
  • Knowledge and experience with service provider routing and switching protocols (e.g. IS-IS, BGP, MPLS).
  • Knowledge and experience with enterprise routing and switching protocols (e.g. OSPF, EIGRP, BGP).
  • Knowledge and experience with current Cisco IOS, IOS-XE, and NX-OS software and hardware features.
  • Ability to configure and troubleshoot Multicast, DMVPN, and GRE tunnels.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Completed Professional tier Juniper or Cisco Certification specialized in Enterprise or Service Provider routing and switching.
  • Knowledge and experience with Juniper JUNOS software and hardware.
  • Knowledge of Automation technologies for networking (e.g. Python/Ansible).
  • Experience with firewalls and firewall rule sets.

  • Salary range of $85,000 - $115,000 based on experience and location.
