About the position

The Senior Network Engineer at RapidScale is responsible for ensuring the application of best practices in the design, deployment, and operation of core route/switch and data center networks. This role involves providing technical guidance to customers and project management teams, ensuring project timelines are met, and leading the technical efforts for customer migrations into the RapidScale platform. The engineer will also be involved in advanced troubleshooting, architectural design, and maintaining the overall health of services migrating into the managed cloud, contributing significantly to customer satisfaction both pre and post-implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver network planning, design, implementation, and optimization services as a post-sales consultant to clients.
  • Create Low Level and High-Level designs of data center networks using Cisco hardware and industry best practices.
  • Lead the delivery of network solutions including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
  • Oversee and perform upgrades of new and existing equipment, hardware, and software.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot customer-managed hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues as needed.
  • Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to stay updated on industry developments.
  • Provision new customers and provide onboarding assistance.
  • Support escalated trouble tickets when necessary.
  • Review the entire environment and execute initiatives to reduce failures and improve performance.
  • Document architectures, procedures, and processes for use by other engineers and support teams.
  • Provide on-call support as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 4 years of experience in a related field, or a master's degree with 2 years of experience, or 8 years of experience in a related field.
  • 4 years of experience designing, deploying, and implementing core route/switch and/or data center networks according to industry best practices.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with the ability to present ideas effectively.
  • Experience with logical network design models and network control protocols.
  • Working technical knowledge of advanced Layer 2 technologies and IP communication and routing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with large-scale WAN deployments.
  • 2 or more years of experience working in WAN SD-WAN implementation and migration.
  • Firewall experience with managing Fortigate, Cisco, Meraki, and Palo Alto.
  • Certifications in CCNA, CCNP, or Fortinet NSE.
