About the position

iTalent Digital is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to join our dynamic team of technology consultants. Our client's technology team is known for its fast-paced and innovative approach, bringing new technology to market with a focus on developing the latest in mobile technologies, scalable architecture, and enhancing the in-store client experience. This group of motivated self-starters and true team players is integral to the future success of the organization. The role is primarily remote, with a requirement to report to the San Francisco office once a week. The salary range for this position is approximately $115,000 to $140,000 annually. The Senior Network Engineer will focus on core functions of network and security support, engineering, planning, implementation, analysis, maintenance, administration, and reporting for both Retail and Corporate environments, as well as Supply Chain operations. This individual will be expected to apply solid technical, business, and problem-solving skills in various situations. Through initiative, leadership, and teamwork, the Senior Network Engineer will create productive relationships with business units and internal IT teams. The position will also involve tactical decision-making that supports the strategic direction of IT and the Network team. Key responsibilities include architecting, engineering, and supporting a network infrastructure that spans 600 stores, corporate offices, and distribution centers. The engineer will work closely with business and application owners on design, troubleshooting, support, and documentation of new application deployments and enhancements. Additionally, the role requires expertise in configuring and troubleshooting Palo Alto and Fortinet firewalls, ensuring compliance with corporate security policies, and managing internal IT initiatives and projects. The engineer will also provide day-to-day support for LAN, WAN, and WLAN networks, perform scheduled and emergency network maintenance, and manage network and security documentation. Strong customer service skills are essential, as the engineer will facilitate collaboration between project teams and clients, proactively identify and resolve network problems, and conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with security policies.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, engineer, and support network infrastructure for 600 stores, corporate offices, and distribution centers.
  • Work closely with business and application owners on design, troubleshooting, support, and documentation of new application deployments and enhancements.
  • Engineer application and network designs to ensure compliance with corporate security policies and best practices.
  • Attend planning meetings and provide suggestions on design.
  • Provide technical expertise in business initiatives and projects.
  • Manage and lead internal IT initiatives and projects from other groups.
  • Participate in on-call rotation.
  • Create end-to-end project tasks and be accountable for entire project completion.
  • Configure and install network and security related hardware and software.
  • Provide day-to-day support of the LAN (Cisco), WAN, and WLAN (Aruba) network.
  • Experience in WAN environments, installing and troubleshooting circuit problems (MPLS, OCxx, T1, DS3) and traffic shaping/QoS.
  • Perform scheduled and emergency network maintenance.
  • Manage and maintain network and security documentation through collaborative applications.
  • Work with application owners on troubleshooting issues, even if they are not network-related.
  • Troubleshoot network issues and provide Post Incident Writeup (PIR) to management.
  • Provide strong customer service and facilitate collaboration between project teams and clients.
  • Proactively identify, isolate, and resolve network problems to minimize business impact.
  • Perform internal audits and reviews to ensure compliance with security policies and procedures, including internal penetration and vulnerability scans.
  • Evaluate new and emerging network security trends, products, and technologies.
  • Create and update Jiras for Kanban and project-related tasks.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with stakeholders.
  • Experience in automation (Ansible, Python) is a big plus.
  • Scripting experience with Python/Ansible or other tools such as PowerShell (minimum 2 years).
  • Aruba Clearpass experience, including 802.1X, Radius, AAA, and policy management.
  • Experience with Aruba wireless technology is essential.
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting Fortinet, PAN, or other layer 7 firewalls.
  • Experience with load balancers (F5 and other technologies).
  • Ability to lead P1/P2 triage calls.
  • Experience using tools like Splunk and Solarwinds to gather data for presentations to management.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to translate business needs into technical tasks.
  • Results-oriented, self-motivated, and high-energy individual.
  • Customer-service-minded with the ability to establish effective working relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience setting up and configuring enterprise monitoring applications like Splunk and Solarwinds.
  • Business Analyst experience is extremely helpful.
  • Flexibility in work schedule for off-hours project implementation and 24/7 on-call support.
  • Experience with SD-WAN/SASE technologies.
  • Experience with security, including SSL certificate administration.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • Experience with VPN technologies (both IPSec and SSL).
  • Familiarity with Layer 3-8 troubleshooting and diagnostic networking tools.
