About the position

The Senior Network Engineer will provide technical engineering support for a complex network infrastructure environment for a federal government client in Huntsville, Alabama. This role involves designing and engineering new network solutions, troubleshooting complex networking issues, and supporting the standard IT lifecycle for a multi-enclave enterprise network. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of networking principles and will work both independently and collaboratively to enhance network solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Gather user network requirements utilizing multiple methodologies to provide necessary technical documentation, system requirements documents, systems security requirements documents, and system test plans.
  • Install, maintain, and evaluate network systems and communications systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues involving various protocols, topologies, networking hardware, etc.
  • Conduct network architecture design, feasibility, and cost studies.
  • Utilize extensive knowledge of internetworking, computer systems, routers, switches, firewalls, and peripherals to enhance understanding of current network designs and collaborate with team members to develop new network designs.
  • Apply technical and business experience to improve processes and procedures for deploying and maintaining network infrastructure.
  • Work independently and collectively to help improve network solutions and contribute to network service improvements.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of relevant IT experience with specialization in networking technologies, specifically with Cisco switches and routers and analyzing enterprise networks.
  • SD-WAN experience at the enterprise level.
  • Experience engineering routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, or EIGRP.
  • Active Top Secret Clearance, with the ability to obtain SCI.
  • Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting complex Local Area Networking (LAN) issues and resolving Wide Area Networking (WAN) problems.
  • Extensive experience with Cisco routing platforms, such as Aggregation Services Routers (ASRs).
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of routing protocols and technologies including BGP, EIGRP, DMVPN, GRE.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of Layer 2 technologies including STP, MST, VLANs.
  • Experience providing Tier 3 support and issue resolution.
  • Experience with network design and traffic engineering.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • CCNP or higher certification.
  • Experience in network engineering within the federal intelligence community.
  • Ability to adhere to a disciplined troubleshooting methodology and ensure task/mission completion.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with attention to detail.
