About the position

We are searching for a Senior Network Engineer to support our Federal Government Client in Huntsville, AL. The ideal candidate will provide technical engineering support for a highly complex network infrastructure environment that includes multiple enclaves with various classification levels. This role involves all engineering activities required to support the standard information technology lifecycle. The candidate will be responsible for design and engineering activities in support of new network solutions for a multi-enclave enterprise network environment, which encompasses various technologies. Additionally, the candidate will provide network support on an as-needed basis to resolve networking issues that have not been addressed by the first three support tiers. The Senior Network Engineer will gather user network requirements utilizing multiple methodologies to create necessary technical documentation, system requirements documents, systems security requirements documents, and system test plans. Responsibilities include installing, maintaining, and evaluating network systems and communications systems, troubleshooting and resolving complex network issues involving various protocols, topologies, and networking hardware. The role also requires conducting network architecture design, feasibility, and cost studies. The candidate will utilize extensive knowledge of internetworking, computer systems, routers, switches, firewalls, and peripherals to enhance understanding of current network designs and collaborate with team members to develop new network designs. Furthermore, the candidate will apply technical and business experience to improve processes and procedures for deploying and maintaining network infrastructure, working both independently and collectively to enhance network solutions and contribute to service improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Gather user network requirements utilizing multiple methodologies to provide necessary technical documentation, system requirements documents, systems security requirements documents, and system test plans.
  • Install, maintain and evaluate network systems and communications systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues involving various protocols, topologies, networking hardware, etc.
  • Conduct network architecture design, feasibility and cost studies.
  • Utilize extensive knowledge of internetworking, computer systems, routers, switches, firewalls, and peripherals to enhance understanding of current network designs and to collaborate with other team members to develop new network designs.
  • Apply technical and business experience and understanding to improve processes and procedures for deploying and maintaining network infrastructure.
  • Work independently and collectively to help improve network solutions and contribute to network service improvements.

Requirements

  • Active Top Secret Clearance, with the ability to obtain SCI
  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience designing, developing, and implementing network solutions
  • Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting complex Local Area Networking (LAN) issues and resolving Wide Area Networking (WAN) problems and supporting cost-effective, high-performance IP and LAN/WAN solutions.
  • Extensive experience with Cisco routing platforms, such as Aggregation Services Routers (ASRs)
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of routing protocols and technologies including BGP, EIGRP, DMVPN, GRE
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of Layer 2 technologies including STP, MST, VLANS
  • Experience providing Tier 3 support and issue resolution
  • Experience with network design and traffic engineering
  • Large enterprise environment experience
  • Excellent communication skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field
  • CCNP or higher
  • Experience in network engineering within the federal intelligence community
  • Ability to adhere to a disciplined troubleshooting methodology, and ensure task/mission completion, along with creating and maintaining necessary information
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with attention to detail
