About the position

Hexagon US Federal is seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer with a strong background in cyber security. This role is integral to the IT team, focusing on the support and maintenance of the IT infrastructure, with a particular emphasis on information security and networking. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the integrity and security of the network while also providing general IT support. The position demands a comprehensive understanding of networking devices and cyber security practices, as well as the ability to implement security improvements and controls effectively. In this role, the Senior Network Engineer will engage in research, design, and implementation of security measures, alongside managing firewalls and network configurations. The candidate will be expected to have a deep knowledge of enterprise networking, including the installation, configuration, and management of network switches, as well as experience with Palo Alto firewalls and various networking protocols. The role also involves creating detailed documentation, including installation and configuration guides, and visual network diagrams using tools like MS Visio. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in enterprise networking, demonstrating proficiency in both hardware and software aspects of networking in diverse environments. The position may require some domestic travel, estimated at up to 10%.

Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain the IT infrastructure with a focus on information security and networking.
  • Research, design, and implement security improvements and controls.
  • Manage firewall and network configurations, including Palo Alto firewalls.
  • Install, configure, and manage network switches and related hardware.
  • Create installation and configuration documentation, including visual network diagrams.
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues using various software tools.

Requirements

  • United States citizenship.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in direct support of enterprise networking.
  • Highly skilled with hardware, operating systems, and networking in both general office and data center environments.
  • Experience with network switch installation, stacking, configuration, and management.
  • Strong experience in managing Palo Alto firewalls and related security protocols.
  • Thorough knowledge of OSI model and TCP/IP protocol stack at all network layers.
  • Solid experience with NAT, SSL/TLS, LDAP, RADIUS, SNMP, DHCP, DNS, NTP protocols.
  • Experience with network monitoring and log management software tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with IEEE 802.1X port-based network access control.
  • Familiarity with VMware, Linux, MacOS, Windows AD, and Azure AD.
  • Knowledge of security standards and federal compliance regulations (e.g., NIST, DFARS, CMMC).
  • Good communication skills - written and verbal.
  • Relevant professional industry certifications in networking and IT security.
