About the position

As a Senior Network Engineer at GDIT, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Department of Defense's mission to ensure national security. This position is part of the US Battlefield Information Collection and Exploitation System eXtended (US BICES-X), a program dedicated to enhancing intelligence information sharing regarding global threats. You will be joining a dynamic and innovative team that operates in a fast-paced environment, directly supporting combatant commands and their missions. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with network staff to ensure the reliable operation of systems, designing network architecture, and performing complex network development tasks. You will also be involved in troubleshooting network issues, providing training, and maintaining knowledge of relevant technologies. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to delivering high-quality results in a collaborative setting.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with network staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
  • Work with executive team members, decision makers, and stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals, and to identify and resolve business systems issues.
  • Design and define network architecture for new or existing computer systems.
  • Perform complex network development and design work.
  • Participate in the upgrading of operating systems and design of network enhancements.
  • Provide input for documentation on new or existing networks.
  • Develop and conduct tests to ensure networks meet documented user requirements.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve network problems.
  • Provide network/equipment/specialized training and technical guidance.
  • Determine network specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility.
  • May provide guidance and leadership to less-experienced systems engineers.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of related Network Engineering experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance.
  • BA/BS degree- may substitute additional years of experience.
  • Must possess a completed CCNA certification.
  • Must meet DOD 8750 requirements and be eligible for IAT level II access upon hire for positions with elevated privileges.
  • Knowledge and experience with service provider routing and switching protocols (e.g. IS-IS, BGP, Service Provider bridging, MPLS).
  • Knowledge and experience with enterprise routing and switching protocols (e.g. OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, Spanning Tree Protocol, Port Aggregates, vPC etc.).
  • Knowledge and experience with current Cisco IOS, IOS-XE, and NX-OS software and hardware features.
  • Ability to configure and troubleshoot Multicast (ASM, BiDir, Anycast).
  • Ability to configure and troubleshoot DMVPN and GRE tunnels.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and multi-task while still ensuring high quality of work.
  • Highly organized with strong ability to prioritize work and work autonomously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Great attention to detail and presentation.
  • Results driven, highly efficient, energetic and highly motivated.

Nice-to-haves

  • Completed Professional tier Juniper or Cisco Certification specialized in Enterprise or Service Provider routing and switching.
  • Knowledge and experience with Juniper JUNOS software and hardware.
  • Knowledge of Automation technologies for networking (e.g. Python/Ansible).
  • Experience with firewalls and firewall rule sets.
