About the position

The Senior Network Engineer at Meijer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the company's complex network infrastructure. This role requires extensive knowledge of networking technologies, advanced troubleshooting skills, and the ability to lead projects while collaborating with cross-functional teams. The position offers flexibility with remote and hybrid work options, provided the candidate resides within the Meijer footprint or is willing to relocate.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage large enterprise level network solutions including routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, load balancers, SD-WAN, wireless, data center fabrics, cellular backup, and cloud.
  • Develop automated solutions to drive operational efficiencies.
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal functionality and uptime.
  • Develop network standard operating procedures and templates.
  • Collaborate with other technology and security teams to integrate new technologies and enhance overall network security.
  • Lead network upgrade and migration projects ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
  • Document network architecture, configurations, inventory and changes to maintain accurate records.
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior network engineers and other IT staff.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies and best practices to drive improvement and innovation.
  • Respond to network incidents and outages, implementing effective resolution strategies.
  • Conduct capacity planning and performance tuning to support business growth and scalability.
  • Travel to various Meijer locations when required.
  • Travel to Meijer corporate campus periodically for training and/or team building events.
  • Participate in 24x7x365 on-call rotation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field required.
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCNP, JNCP, CCIE, JNCIE, PCNSE, CWNA, Azure Network Engineer, GCP Professional Cloud Network Engineer, or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of related experience in network engineering.
  • Experience with scripting languages and automation tools required (Python, Bash, Ansible, Terraform, etc.).
  • Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD desired.
  • Juniper, cloud, and hybrid network architecture experience highly desired.
  • In-depth knowledge of a broad range of network technologies including Network Edge & Core Switching, SD-WAN, Firewalls, LAN/WLAN/WAN, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, TCP/IP, IPSEC, MP-BGP EVPN, Radius, TACACS, DNS/DHCP, Load Balancing, VPNs, Cloud Networking, Cellular backup, NAC, and structured cabling.
  • Hands-on experience with network hardware from major vendors (Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, Fortinet, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of network security practices and tools (firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, PCI, HIPAA, etc.).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with network monitoring tools and performance analysis.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD desired.
  • Knowledge of SDN (Software-Defined Networking) and related technologies.
