About the position

The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, analyzing, and providing technical support for data communications networks or a group of networks. This role requires extensive knowledge of LAN/WAN systems to assist in the design and installation of both internal and external network solutions. The Senior Network Engineer oversees the installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of networked information systems, ensuring that they operate efficiently and effectively. This includes testing and evaluating network systems to identify and resolve problems, as well as implementing improvements to enhance performance. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Senior Network Engineer handles major incidents and technical issues through hands-on troubleshooting. They support, maintain, and monitor both internal and external networks, implementing and managing network configurations and related security measures. The role also involves resolving network performance issues and establishing disaster recovery plans, as well as installing upgrades and patches, performing system backups and recovery, and monitoring system configurations to maintain data integrity. The Senior Network Engineer is expected to provide technical support and guidance to users, relying on their extensive knowledge and professional discretion to achieve goals. This position requires significant ingenuity and flexibility, as well as familiarity with scripting languages such as Ruby and Python. Strong leadership, communication, and documentation skills are essential, as the Senior Network Engineer may manage others and offer consultation to senior leadership, positioning them as a top-level expert in the field.

Responsibilities

• Plans, designs, analyzes and provides technical support for data communications networks.
• Oversees and performs the installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of networked information systems.
• Tests and evaluates network systems to eliminate problems and make improvements.
• Handles technical issues and major incidents through hands-on troubleshooting.
• Supports, maintains, and monitors internal and external networks.
• Implements and manages network configurations and related security.
• Resolves network performance issues and establishes a disaster recovery plan.
• Installs upgrades and patches, performs system backups and recovery.
• Monitors system configuration and maintains data files.
• Recommends upgrades, new applications, and equipment.
• Provides technical support and guidance to users.
• Develops detailed business user requirements, system documentation, workflow procedures, and data modeling.
• Provides mentoring for IT staff on specific systems or skills.
• Coordinates and/or performs testing of system modifications.
• Establishes deadlines and provides ongoing communication of progress to business customers, project team members, and vendors.
• Develops, provides, or coordinates system training.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or Telecommunications is required.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in network engineering is required, with 5 years preferred.
• 5 years of experience with Cisco systems is preferred.
• Considerable knowledge in the computer science field and business management is necessary.
• Foundational knowledge of modern information system security, deployment, and maintenance is required.
• Ability to lead teams to complete projects on time and within budget.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
• Ability to document system information, program information, and specifications.

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with scripting languages such as Ruby and Python is preferred.
• Experience in database maintenance and quality control through testing and correcting errors.
