About the position

Cox Communications is searching for a Senior Network Planning Engineer who will be responsible for analyzing and modeling needs for Cox Critical Facility capacity within the Integrated Network Planning organization. This role is crucial in ensuring that the critical facilities are equipped to handle the demands of the network infrastructure. The Senior Network Planning Engineer will conduct basic equipment evaluations and forecast power, HVAC, and space utilization across the enterprise facilities. This includes assisting with the critical facility equipment gathering process and supporting the Point of Interface (POI) process to ensure smooth deployment preparation. The engineer will become a subject matter expert in the Critical Facility Growth Model (CFGM) and will lead and host necessary planning activities to support Integrated Network Planning initiatives. In addition to these responsibilities, the Senior Network Planning Engineer will manage data across multiple tools and maintain the CFGM database. They will support tactical plans for critical facilities and will be expected to understand facility capability to ensure capacity and efficiency of the planned designs. The engineer will evaluate and plan optimal capacity based on equipment requirements and gather data required to calculate CFGM. Collaboration with corporate and regional engineers will be essential to operationalize and document plans, as well as to interface with boundary partners related to models and data, providing insights into growth trends. The position will require the use of various technologies, including Network Management Software (NMS) tools and application platforms such as Excel, FIRM, POInt, Oracle Database, Granite, Hadoop, R, SAS, Alteryx, and SQL. A solid understanding of network infrastructure, including DOCSIS, broadband services, and RF multi-gigabit optical ethernet, is necessary. The engineer will join a diverse engineering team working to transform data, voice, and video networks for the next generation. The role also involves developing reports and analyses to verify data and process quality, assisting in code development to automate reports and templates, and providing statistical analyses to assist leadership in making actionable insights.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct basic equipment evaluation and forecast Power, HVAC and Space utilization across the enterprise facilities
  • Assist with Critical Facility equipment gathering process and support POI process to ensure smooth deployment preparation
  • Become subject matter expert in CFGM (Critical Facility Growth Model)
  • Lead and host necessary planning activities to support INP planning initiatives
  • Manage data across multiple tools and maintain CFGM DB
  • Support tactical plans for CF
  • Understand facility capability to ensure capacity and efficiency of the planned designs
  • Evaluate and plan optimal capacity based on equipment requirements
  • Gather data required to calculate CFGM
  • Work with corporate and regional engineers to operationalize and document plans
  • Assist to interface with boundary partners related models and data and provide growth trends
  • Identify, research, and resolve discrepancies in analytical procedures or cross-functional methods
  • Utilize applications for measuring, analyzing, modeling and forecasting near term capacity needs
  • Develop reports and analysis to verify data and process quality
  • Assist in code development to automate reports and template
  • Provide statistical analyses to assist leadership to actionable insights
  • Present data and provide recommendations to department leadership
  • Provide input to leadership on performance issues and operational process improvements

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science and 4 years' experience as a technical engineer in the Wireless Communications Industry
  • Experience utilizing communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills to work with business leaders for gathering requirements to build data models
  • Experience in researching and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data
  • Experience working with large data sets, analysis and methods
  • Experience developing automated reporting
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite applications in a work setting with strong knowledge in Excel
  • Experience in digital cable systems

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge in process development
  • R/SAS/Alteryx and SQL or similar analytical database and coding skills
  • Experience debugging analytical code and processes
  • Knowledge in telecommunication but not required
