About the position

The Senior Network Security Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of the district's technology infrastructure. This position is responsible for architecting, designing, developing, implementing, managing, maintaining, and monitoring all Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN), VoIP networks, Cybersecurity Appliances, and End-User devices. The primary goal is to protect the district's technology infrastructure, users, and data from cyber threats while ensuring optimal network performance. In this role, the engineer will lead the network and cybersecurity teams, developing comprehensive strategies to safeguard the district's network and systems against cyber-attacks. This includes ongoing research into the latest networking and cybersecurity trends, creating contingency plans, and conducting thorough analyses of networking and cybersecurity threats through various methodologies such as exploitation analysis, threat analysis, digital forensics, incident response, and vulnerability management. The engineer will also be responsible for managing the installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of various network components, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points. They will ensure that all network architecture and design documents are kept up to date and will provide technical supervision to network technicians, assisting them in resolving complex network and security issues. Additionally, the engineer will collaborate with other departments to ensure successful project implementation and manage customer problems and requests effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and manage all district networks including WAN, LAN, WLAN, and VLAN.
  • Provide leadership to the Cybersecurity team in updating the Information Security Plan and related standards.
  • Manage assigned network security systems to provide security for the entire district.
  • Utilize and manage information security analysis tools to support the Information Security Plan.
  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain the ethernet LAN infrastructure including routers and switches.
  • Manage WAN related equipment including firewalls and Intrusion Prevention Systems.
  • Oversee the district's wireless network infrastructure including access points and WLAN.
  • Manage the district's VoIP systems and ensure network/VoIP availability and security.
  • Install, configure, and maintain network security appliances including VPN services.
  • Use network management and monitoring software to maintain network performance.
  • Stay current with networking equipment and cybersecurity technologies to ensure solutions are future-proof.
  • Provide technical supervision of network technicians and assist in resolving complex issues.
  • Lead training for networking and cybersecurity teams in advanced technologies.
  • Manage network planning, design, upgrades, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with other departments for successful project implementation.
  • Monitor and respond to service ticket requests for network security issues.
  • Provide on-call services as needed, including weekends and holidays.
  • Manage contractors to ensure compliance with standards and timely completion of work.
  • Create and manage documentation regarding the District's Network Design and Equipment Inventory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Technology related field.
  • Four (4) years of experience in a Technology supporting role.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or equivalent certification required.
  • CompTIA Security+ preferred.
  • Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) or equivalent recommended.
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or equivalent recommended.
  • Experience with network monitoring tools such as Sniffer, Cisco Prime, SolarWinds.
  • Knowledge of Firewalls (Cisco and Palo Alto) and VPNs.
  • Experience with intrusion prevention and detection systems.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems in enterprise domain environments.
  • Proficiency in TCP/IP networking and core technologies such as BGP, OSPF, DNS, HTTP.
  • Experience in electronics, telecommunications, and both wired and wireless networks.
  • Significant hands-on troubleshooting abilities with network products and security software.
