About the position

The Senior Network Security Engineer at New Balance will play a pivotal role within the Global Network Services team, focusing on the design and implementation of network infrastructure across a diverse corporate environment. This position is essential for ensuring the security and efficiency of the network, which supports the company's operations and strategic goals. The engineer will be responsible for creating enterprise-wide network solutions, upgrades, and changes, with a strong emphasis on network security. This includes managing firewalls, crafting firewall policies, developing trust zone models, and handling third-party connectivity requests. The role requires collaboration with various business units and corporate stakeholders to gather requirements for new projects, ensuring that the network infrastructure aligns with business needs. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Senior Network Security Engineer will be tasked with project management duties, including building and communicating project implementation plans, ensuring smooth hand-offs to operations, and providing excellent client service. The engineer will also conduct technical analysis and planning for the deployment of evolving technology solutions, contributing to the development of architecture standards and design guides. This position involves preparing technical solution designs and proposals, producing documentation around project budgets, implementation plans, and operational handoffs, and guiding junior engineers and vendors through configuration and implementation activities. The role also includes serving as Tier 3 Support for network operations across corporate, retail, cloud, and data center environments, which involves advanced troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and integration activities. The Senior Network Security Engineer will be expected to work flexibly, including being available for escalations and potentially participating in an on-call rotation that includes weekends. This position is critical for maintaining the integrity and security of New Balance's network infrastructure, ensuring that it meets the demands of a dynamic business environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement enterprise-wide network solutions, upgrades, and changes with a strong focus on network security.
  • Interface with business unit and corporate stakeholders to consult and gather requirements for new projects.
  • Build and communicate a well-organized project implementation plan.
  • Ensure hand-off to Operations, moving into 'support' state.
  • Provide excellent client service while evaluating enhancements to the global networks.
  • Conduct related technical analysis & planning for deployment of evolving technology solutions.
  • Interface with various stakeholders regarding projects and requirements for new tech & services.
  • Prepare technical solution designs and proposals, applying existing standards to meet business requirements.
  • Produce simple & concise documentation around project budgets, implementation plans, technical drawings, and operational handoffs.
  • Project-manage owned projects, ensuring successful delivery with effective organization and stakeholder communication.
  • Guide junior engineers and vendors through configuration and implementation activities.
  • Serve as Tier 3 Support for network operations in corporate, retail, cloud, and data center network environments.

Requirements

  • Layer 3 segmentation and advanced routing skills including VRF, MPLS, OSPF, BGP.
  • Significant experience with Aruba Wireless Environment, Palo Alto Firewall, F5 Load Balancer, Cisco routing and switching, TCP/IP.
  • Demonstrable ability to break down and analyze network communications at the packet level.
  • Experience with Implementing Quality of Service in a Voice/Video integrated Network Environment.
  • Industry best practice approach to building segmented, hierarchical networks.
  • Familiarity with cloud security solutions such as Prisma, Zscaler, and SASE concepts.
  • Self-starter with high energy to meet the needs of a demanding business and IT environment.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and solid writing skills (proposals, scopes of work, solution summaries, etc.).
  • Highly organized and solutions-oriented with strong requirements gathering skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience building networks in warehouse and manufacturing environments.
  • Coding and/or scripting skills (e.g., Python, Ansible, Terraform); experience with network automation processes and tools.
