About the position

The Senior Nuclear Security Program Manager at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is responsible for managing and directing nuclear security initiatives for both domestic and international applications. This role involves extensive coordination with federal sponsors, international partners, and laboratory colleagues to ensure the successful execution of projects aimed at reducing the risk of nuclear and radiological terrorism. The position requires a strong commitment to safety and security, as well as the ability to develop and implement program work plans, budgets, and schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Conceive, develop and implement sponsor initiatives related to nuclear nonproliferation and nuclear security.
  • Coordinate extensively with federal sponsors, international partners, laboratory colleagues and other subject matter experts.
  • Work with staff and line managers to identify and address challenges to execution to ensure impactful product delivery.
  • Develop and coordinate program work plans, budget estimates, and schedules with federal sponsors and other performers.
  • Analyze data and information to assess the need for, progress, or outcome of project work.
  • Maintain and update plans and analysis for each project to contribute to a larger program planning process.
  • Develop subcontract statements of work and provide technical oversight to subcontracts aligned to assigned projects.
  • Plan and organize events and meetings with the international community.
  • Integrate with ORNL project management team and processes to enhance project management capabilities and performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 6+ years of related experience or a Master's Degree and 4+ years of related experience.
  • A firm understanding of nuclear and radioactive materials/detection and the international and domestic application of nonproliferation and nuclear security.
  • Active Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in nuclear security or nonproliferation project or program initiatives.
  • Knowledge of project management tools such as Primavera (P6) and Microsoft Project.

  • Responsibility and responsiveness, ability to work a flexible schedule and travel when needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities, meet milestones and remain accountable, regardless of location.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Ability to accurately prepare reports and presentations, as well as journal publications.
  • International nuclear nonproliferation experience with foreign partners.
  • Experience supporting DOE/NNSA.
