About the position

Canonical is seeking a Senior Observability Platform Developer with expertise in Python and/or Go to join the Observability team. The role involves developing a cloud-native monitoring stack that integrates top open-source monitoring tools, ensuring a resilient and scalable solution that provides deep insights for users. The position emphasizes collaboration within a globally distributed team and offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology in a fully remote environment.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate proactively with a globally distributed team
• Write, test, and document high-quality code to create new features
• Debug issues and interact with a vibrant community
• Review code produced by other engineers
• Attend conferences to represent Canonical and the Charmed Observability Stack
• Work from home with global travel 2 to 4 weeks for internal and external events

Requirements

• Bachelor's or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM or similar degree
• Proven understanding of the importance of observability and monitoring for software performance
• Strong working knowledge of modern monitoring technologies like Prometheus, Alertmanager, Grafana, Loki, Mimir
• Skilled Python developer with a track record in open source
• Working knowledge of Go
• Hands-on experience deploying, configuring, and using Kubernetes
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code and configuration management tools
• Interest and experience with Ubuntu Linux, container images, Debian packaging, snap, distributed systems

Nice-to-haves

• Experience contributing to open source codebases maintained by other companies
• History of driving consensus in groups with multiple stakeholders
