The Senior Operations Manager for Transportation at Penske is responsible for providing tactical direction and leadership to staff to ensure that customer requirements are met while aligning with Penske's goals and objectives. This role involves maintaining a professional approach to support solutions that enable the achievement of all contractual obligations. The manager will create and foster relationships with the customer's logistics manager to facilitate operational stability, ensuring that the operations run smoothly and efficiently. This position may be specific to one customer or a group of customers with similar needs, emphasizing the importance of understanding and addressing unique operational challenges. The role requires interaction with local customers on a daily basis to understand existing and emerging needs. The Senior Operations Manager will utilize their team to identify operational improvements in various areas, including route optimization, carrier selection, backhauls, trailer loading, inventory accuracy, and warehouse operations. Collaboration with other Penske sites is essential to share best practices and leverage resources effectively. Financial management is a critical aspect of this position, as the manager will develop and execute annual financial and operating plans, ensuring that operations meet or exceed business plan targets. This includes identifying issues with operating metrics and P&L, ensuring timely and accurate customer billings and associate payroll, and validating payables and intercompany charges. Safety is a top priority, and the Senior Operations Manager will monitor and improve accident frequency, ensuring that all associates understand their roles and responsibilities in maintaining a safe workplace. Proactive identification and correction of unsafe conditions and compliance with regulatory agencies and company policies are essential. Additionally, the manager will execute processes to track and record value delivered to customers, identify profitable business opportunities, and utilize metrics to maximize customer efficiencies and achieve cost savings. Monitoring fleet and equipment utilization and fuel efficiency is also part of the role, along with building strong relationships with local PTL districts and equipment vendors. Other projects and tasks may be assigned by the supervisor as needed.
