About the position

The Operations Research Analyst, Statistician, or Data Scientist at MITRE will engage in advanced analytical and mathematical techniques to address complex policy and acquisition decisions, enhancing operational effectiveness and efficiency. This role involves collaboration with a team of experts to provide actionable insights to sponsors across various sectors, including defense and public services. The position emphasizes mentorship, independent work, and the application of innovative research methodologies to solve pressing national challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Apply advanced analytical and mathematical techniques to make difficult policy and acquisition decisions.
  • Maximize operational effectiveness and efficiency to achieve high-quality engineering solutions.
  • Present results in an intuitive, actionable manner for all sponsor audiences, regardless of technical expertise.
  • Work independently and/or collaborate with a team of technical staff.
  • Mentor junior staff in operations research and analytics.
  • Shape and lead projects in collaboration with MITRE staff and sponsors.

Requirements

  • Degree in Operations Research, Mathematics, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent knowledge and skills in a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years with a Master's degree; or a PhD with relevant experience.
  • Passion for applying operations research, statistics, and data analytics to real-world problems.
  • Willingness to adapt and learn new techniques.
  • Technical leadership in the field of operations research.
  • Knowledge of principles, concepts, methods, and tools for conducting operations research, statistical analysis, or data analytic studies.
  • Experience in mathematical modeling, optimization, statistics, probability modeling, and simulation.
  • Demonstrated ability to use at least one modern programming language (e.g., RStudio, MATLAB, Python, Java).
  • Experience with at least one simulation, optimization, or business intelligence platform (e.g., Gurobi, CPLEX, Stella, Simio, Arena, AnyLogic, SimPy, RSimmer, SAS, Tableau).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Active security clearance preferred.
  • Experience working with/for agencies and/or departments of the US Government (e.g., FAA, DoD, DoE, DHS, Treasury, IRS).
