About the position

ASML is at the forefront of technology, bringing together the brightest minds in science and engineering to develop lithography machines that are essential for producing advanced microchips. The Senior Optical Equipment Engineer will play a critical role in the Optics Fabrication group located in Wilton, CT, which is responsible for creating precision optical components for DUV and EUV lithography systems. These optical components are integral to various internal systems, including wafer alignment, inspection, and metrology measurements. The Equipment Engineering group supports the Optics Fabrication by ensuring that the equipment used is safe, precise, and reliable, with maximum uptime availability to meet production quality and throughput goals. In this experienced engineering position, the Senior Optical Equipment Engineer will support vacuum coating and etch processes, collaborating closely with process engineers, technicians, machine operators, and product development teams. The role requires a deep understanding of vacuum systems and maintenance, as well as experience with thin film evaporation technologies. The engineer will be responsible for selecting reliable equipment, creating and executing preventative maintenance plans, defining critical spare parts, and assisting maintenance teams with troubleshooting and equipment modifications. This position demands a hands-on approach to problem-solving and a commitment to safety and quality in all engineering practices. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, excellent documentation abilities, and a team-oriented attitude, all while being motivated to learn and grow in a challenging field. The physical demands of the job include routine sitting, walking, and the ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally. The work environment is generally moderate in temperature and noise level, requiring the ability to read and interpret data and interact effectively with others.

Responsibilities

  • Support vacuum coating and etch processes by collaborating with process engineers, technicians, and machine operators.
  • Select reliable equipment based on maintainability and reliability.
  • Create and execute preventative maintenance plans to ensure equipment uptime.
  • Define critical spare parts for quick response to unplanned downtime.
  • Develop standard maintenance procedures to maximize maintenance effectiveness.
  • Plan strategic upgrades and identify end-of-life equipment.
  • Provide hands-on support for equipment modifications and upgrades.
  • Assist maintenance teams with advanced troubleshooting of equipment issues.

Requirements

  • BS in an engineering discipline or equivalent industry experience.
  • 15+ years in an optical or semiconductor manufacturing role.
  • Deep knowledge of vacuum systems and maintenance.
  • Experience with a variety of thin film evaporation technologies.
  • Familiarity with PLCs and machine controls.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and software-related issues.
