About the position

The Senior Engineering Applications Engineer is responsible for planning, developing, testing, and supervising engineering applications development and support for both internal and external clients. This role focuses on improving and innovating ABS engineering applications as part of the Digital Class framework, requiring a comprehensive application of engineering analysis, information technology, and digitalization to deliver creative and forward-looking solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies opportunities and proposes solutions to improve Engineering Applications.
  • Serves as leader or member of Engineering Applications development or support team, ensuring duties are carried out on schedule and within budget.
  • Coordinates and collaborates with Engineering, Technology, IT, and other departments for planning, design, development, testing, and maintenance of Engineering Applications.
  • Maintains good relations with customers and coworkers, supporting Engineering Application users.
  • Develops suggested Engineering Applications development projects as assigned, providing expert advice on technology and engineering matters.
  • Collects user feedback and client needs, tracks industrial trends, and proposes new features and solutions for continuous improvement of Engineering Applications.
  • Ensures compliance with ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management System requirements in technical work.
  • Performs selected engineering analyses.

Requirements

  • Completion of an engineering or computer science curriculum from a University (B.S. or equivalent) or Professional or chartered engineer license.
  • 5 years of relevant engineering and/or software development experience in a shipyard, marine or offshore design/consulting office, shipping/oil company, CAD or engineering software company, software development or consulting company, university, or a classification society.
  • Command of English language.
  • Knowledge of engineering analysis, specifically in structural analysis, finite element approach, and structural or machinery Rule-compliance assessment.
  • Knowledge of applicable Class Rules and regulations for marine and offshore structures or machinery.
  • Understanding of software development and IT technologies, with engineering software development experience preferred.
  • Human relations skills necessary to maintain positive relationships with clients and peers.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to undertake short- and long-term planning for efficient scheduling of work assignments.
  • Interest in data, digital, system, software, and its analytics and development, with knowledge and experience in coding preferred.
  • Ability to develop a working knowledge of ABS Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and related instructions.
