About the position

Ciena is seeking a Senior Oracle Apps DBA to join our Oracle OCI team, reporting directly to the Senior Manager of IT Applications. This position is pivotal in leading a team responsible for designing automation and supporting the Oracle public cloud. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in Oracle database administration, particularly with Oracle EBS, and will also have knowledge of other cloud services such as AWS or Azure. The role involves setting the strategic direction for the OCI team, collaborating with security, networking, and governance teams to implement new solutions, and making high-level decisions to enhance the business experience. In this role, you will be responsible for the ongoing design, implementation, and management of the OCI environment, including testing and implementing new services as they become available. You will also manage and improve tools, ensuring they are maintained and upgraded, and establish automation processes. Additionally, you will document and create playbooks for administrative and support actions to be utilized by the Production Support team. The position requires a hands-on approach to develop and grow a team capable of creating automation to manage the OCI platform effectively. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate initiative, a customer-first mentality, agility in managing competing priorities, and excellent communication skills. You will thrive in a team environment while also being comfortable working independently. Responsibilities

  • Lead a team in designing automation and supporting the Oracle public cloud.
  • Set the strategic direction for the OCI team and collaborate with security, networking, and governance teams.
  • Manage and improve tools, ensuring they are maintained and upgraded, and establish automation processes.
  • Own the ongoing design, implementation, and management of the OCI environment.
  • Test and implement new services as they become available in the OCI environment.
  • Document and create playbooks for administrative/support actions for Production Support.
  • Develop and grow a team to create automation for managing the OCI platform.
  • Collaborate with external teams to solve complex problems.
  • Participate in on-call rotation, involving work outside of normal hours.

Requirements

  • Excellent knowledge of core Oracle databases required (up through 19c).
  • Excellent knowledge of Oracle EBS database administration through 12.2.4 required, including concurrent processing, system administration, startup and shutdown, RAC, OEM in the EBS space, support of printing including XML, managing of schema statistics, identification of poorly performing queries, performance tuning, RAC refreshes.
  • Excellent knowledge of Data Guard and DR concepts.
  • Knowledge of Oracle EBS system administration to monitor concurrent requests and collect information on job logs.
  • Proficient knowledge to manage and monitor FMW, Weblogic Server, SOA Suite, Golden Gate, Demantra, and Vertex.
  • Comfort with Linux and Windows environments, able to start/stop/monitor services and determine status or issues.
  • Unix shell scripting proficiency.
  • Excellent communication skills.
