About the position

The Senior AWS Database Administrator will be responsible for managing and optimizing cloud-based databases for CGI's government clients. This role involves installation, configuration, monitoring, and security of databases, as well as developing solutions for database management and transformation. The position requires a strong technical background in various database technologies and cloud platforms, particularly AWS, and offers the opportunity to work in a hybrid model with client-facing responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, upgrade, and administer cloud-based databases including Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Aurora in AWS environments.
  • Support database deployment and migration activities, executing backups and restores.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database issues across development, testing, and production environments.
  • Manage database level security and ensure compliance with security protocols.
  • Design, develop, test, and implement database tools for backup/recovery, security, data archival, and data masking.
  • Monitor and analyze database performance and resource utilization to improve operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with systems engineers and architects on database infrastructure architecture and design.
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans for rapid response to outages or data loss.
  • Create operational procedures, documentation, and proposals related to database management.
  • Develop scripts to automate repetitive systems administration tasks.

Requirements

  • 5-8 years of Oracle DB Administration experience in a large production environment.
  • 3-5 years of experience with MS SQL Server, DynamoDB, MySQL, and PostgreSQL Database administration.
  • 2 years of experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS and Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience with database Backup/Recovery, Security & Encryption, Data Archival, and Data masking & Subsetting solutions.
  • Familiarity with LDAP authentication, RBAC concepts, and Microsoft AD.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and root cause-analysis skills.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in driving technical problems to resolution.
  • Ability to plan and implement change for enterprise systems, adhering to standard change management processes.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to mentor other team members in areas of technical expertise.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with local and wide area networking technologies.
  • Preferred experience in AWS database management solutions.
  • 3-5 years of experience working in an outsourced/managed services environment.
