About the position

As a Database Administrator at Western Digital, you will play a crucial role in managing and optimizing Oracle databases to ensure their performance, security, and reliability. Your primary responsibilities will include installing, configuring, and maintaining Oracle databases, as well as developing and implementing robust backup and disaster recovery strategies. You will be tasked with fine-tuning database settings to optimize performance and troubleshooting any database-related issues that arise, contributing to continuous improvements in our database operations. In this position, you will work closely with team members to ensure the integrity and smooth operation of our databases. You will also be responsible for introducing and deploying new database technologies, maintaining database reports, visualizations, and dashboards to support existing workflows. Your role will involve creating, building, and integrating complex database systems for both internal and external users, defining and documenting standards, and implementing complicated models to monitor and enhance database capacity and performance. You will be expected to minimize database downtime and manage parameters to ensure quick query responses, while also ensuring that service level agreements (SLAs) and operational key performance indicators (KPIs) are met. Collaboration with internal and external support departments will be essential, especially during significant events that may impact database operations.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain Oracle databases.
  • Develop and implement database backups and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Optimize database performance by fine-tuning database settings.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues to contribute to continuous improvements.
  • Develop, implement, and manage database security policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with team members to guarantee database operation and integrity.
  • Introduce and deploy new database technology.
  • Maintain database reports, visualizations, and dashboards to help existing workflows.
  • Create, build, and integrate complex database systems for internal and external users/clients.
  • Define, document, and implement standards and complicated models to monitor and improve the database's capacity and performance.
  • Reduce database downtime and control parameters to ensure quick query responses.
  • Ensure SLAs and operational KPIs are fulfilled, collaborating with internal and external support departments as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in Oracle DB administration.
  • Proficiency in SQL and SQL server tools.
  • Advanced understanding of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring requirements.
  • Modeling of relational and dimensional data.
  • PowerShell and Unix shell scripting abilities are required.
  • Strong written and oral communication abilities.
  • Knowledge of Linux and Windows Server infrastructures.
  • Thorough understanding of Oracle database technologies.
  • Knowledge of Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC), ASM, and Active Data Guard.
  • Knowledge of Oracle Exadata environments and hands-on experience managing and supporting Exadata environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of database standards and end-user applications.
