About the position

The Senior Oracle DBA plays a critical role within the Digital Service Delivery organization at Mastercard. This individual will lead large initiatives, gathering requirements through feature requests from development partners, performing analysis and implementation of database designs, providing consulting, and driving best practices, governance, and standards of Database Engineering within the company. The Digital Service Delivery team is looking for a candidate who can help solve problems, build and maintain databases, and lead Mastercard in database automation and best practices. The ideal candidate is a born problem solver with a low tolerance for manual work, seeking to automate processes wherever possible. They should have experience working in global teams across different geographies and possess an entrepreneurial spirit that embraces critical questioning, innovation, customer service, and continuous improvement. As part of the Technology Operations, the Database Engineering (DE) team supports Mastercard Business Systems and Operations globally. The Senior Oracle DBA will leverage their knowledge and skills to deploy and manage various database technologies in Test and Production environments for global products, including Developer APIs, Digital Checkout, and Card Tokenization. The role requires managing a wide variety of databases, particularly with a strong emphasis on database backup and recovery, performance tuning, and high availability configuration. The candidate should be highly experienced in multiple database technologies, including Oracle, MS-SQL Server, PostgreSQL, DB2, Cassandra, and Redis, and should be forward-thinking with infrastructure automation and scripting skills. The Senior Oracle DBA will also lead in managing client expectations, collaborate with other DBAs, provide direction for database domain strategy, and review new tools and products that assist in providing database support and services.

Responsibilities

  • Lead large database initiatives and gather requirements from development partners.
  • Perform analysis and implementation of database designs.
  • Provide consulting and drive best practices, governance, and standards in Database Engineering.
  • Manage a wide variety of databases, focusing on backup and recovery, performance tuning, and high availability configuration.
  • Collaborate with other DBAs and participate in internal projects.
  • Provide DBA suggestions and input on database domain strategy.
  • Guide and provide direction for best practices and application database solutions to development teams.
  • Review new tools and products for database support and services.
  • Plan and coordinate data migrations between systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems or equivalent experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of database management including installation, creation of new instances, space management, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring.
  • Strong working knowledge of RDBMS and NoSQL databases with relevant certifications.
  • Hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Oracle replication implementation (Golden Gate/DataGuard).
  • Intermediate knowledge of Oracle internals and middleware (OEM).
  • Working knowledge of backup/recovery using RMAN for Oracle and Mongo OpsManager for Mongo.
  • Working PL/SQL coding background.
  • Understanding of logical and physical data models on structured and unstructured data patterns.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with MongoDB design principles and cluster connectivity.
  • Expertise in managing Redis cache.
  • Knowledge of multiple database technologies beyond those listed as required.
