About the position

The Senior Paralegal, IP at WRIGHT EXPRESS CORPORATION will play a crucial role in providing legal support to the Legal, Technology, and Digital teams, specifically focusing on the oversight and management of WEX's intellectual property (IP) portfolio. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Global Corporate Legal Services and is integral to ensuring that WEX's IP assets are managed and protected in compliance with relevant laws and regulations. The Senior Paralegal will also support WEX's innovative product development efforts by facilitating strategic and tactical advice on both existing and new IP matters. In this role, the Senior Paralegal will oversee various aspects of WEX's IP portfolio, including registration, prosecution, renewal, enforcement, and litigation management in collaboration with in-house and outside counsel. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in IP portfolio management and will assist in developing strategies and policies to ensure the effective protection and compliance of WEX's IP assets. This includes fostering awareness and collaboration regarding WEX's IP strategies and assisting with IP due diligence in connection with mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic transactions. The Senior Paralegal will also maintain a current understanding of relevant laws and industry standards, collaborate with members of the Global Corporate Legal Services team on special projects, and contribute to the development of the WEX Legal Department's culture and practices. Additionally, the role involves creating training materials and conducting sessions for internal stakeholders, as well as liaising with external legal advisors when specialized advice is needed.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee WEX's IP portfolio, including guidance on registration, prosecution, renewal, enforcement, and litigation management related to trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
  • Assist in developing strategies and policies for the protection, maintenance, and compliance of WEX's existing IP portfolio and new inventions.
  • Foster awareness and collaboration regarding WEX's IP portfolio and related strategies, policies, and processes.
  • Assist with IP due diligence and integration in connection with mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic transactions.
  • Maintain a current understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to WEX's IP portfolio.
  • Collaborate with members of WEX's Global Corporate Legal Services on executing special projects and project management.
  • Contribute to the development of the WEX Legal Department culture and practices, including policy creation and implementation.
  • Assist in developing training materials and conducting training sessions for internal stakeholders.
  • Liaise with and oversee external legal advisors for specialized legal advice on IP matters.

Requirements

  • Certification or associates degree in paralegal studies (bachelor's degree preferred).
  • 5+ years of significant experience as a paralegal/legal assistant in IP and corporate transactional matters.
  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. and international IP laws with a strong track record of managing IP portfolios.
  • In-house legal experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to quality through demonstrated accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Ability to work independently while being team-oriented and collaborative.
  • Ability to build strong internal relationships and act as a trusted resource for business leaders globally.
  • Sound judgment and strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate risk and plan accordingly.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and GSuite, with the ability to quickly learn other applications.
