About the position

The Senior Paralegal at The Nature Conservancy (TNC) will play a crucial role in supporting and coordinating legal services for various business units and projects. This position requires minimal supervision from a TNC attorney and involves providing advanced expertise on complex and high-value legal matters. The Senior Paralegal will ensure that all transactions and activities align with TNC's mission, authority, policies, and procedures. The role demands a solid understanding of legal liability and risk management, as well as the ability to articulate relevant legal concepts and internal policies to others. The Senior Paralegal will be responsible for organizing and tracking data, addressing systems issues, and communicating system needs effectively. In addition to legal support, the Senior Paralegal will work closely with teams focused on TNC's philanthropy and fundraising activities, which include matters related to private foundations, planned giving, and fundraising compliance. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills, be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously while providing excellent customer service. Analytical experience in accounting and finance is also considered a valuable asset for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced legal support and coordination for complex and high-value matters.
  • Ensure transactions and activities are legally sound and consistent with TNC's mission and policies.
  • Articulate relevant legal concepts and internal policies to various stakeholders.
  • Organize and track data related to legal matters and address systems issues.
  • Support TNC's philanthropy and fundraising activities, including compliance with private foundations and planned giving.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus 4 years of combined legal and administrative experience or equivalent qualifications.
  • Experience drafting and reviewing legal documents, particularly contract and grant agreements.
  • Experience with administrative support tasks such as invoice review, meeting support, and minutes taking.
  • Experience conducting legal and factual research using various legal resources.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Word, Excel, SharePoint, and other relevant technologies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant legal experience in nonprofit legal issues, including state charitable registration compliance.
  • Experience with accounting, financial, and tax issues and analysis.
  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural experience.
